Smith House Gold Mine News 8/07 |
A Golden Opportunity For Video CraftA documentary recounting the discovery of a turn of the century gold mine found at the legendary Smith House Restaurant and Inn is scheduled to premier on October 1st at the Holly Theatre in Dahlonega, Georgia. Freddy Welch, owner of The Smith House, has invited everyone involved with the production, as well as, dignitaries from Dahlonega and Lumpkin County to attend this big event.
Since the mines discovery in early 2006, Video Craft Productions has been accumulating footage of the excavation process, conducting interviews with historians, and has been compiling old photographs for well over a year. Frieda Bafile, the daughter of Freddy Welch, writes “It has been so exciting to locate photographs of The Smith House, and the people of Dahlonega that date back to the 1800’s. Some of the photographs I found for the documentary I didn’t even know existed.”
Scott Gray, producer and partner at Video Craft Productions, enjoys history and leaped at the opportunity to produce what is now titled, “The Legend of the Smith House Mine”.
“A couple of documentaries have been produced about the history of Dahlonega and its famous gold rush, but this is the first documentary about the gold that actually takes place in the present day. Legends of hidden mines have always circulated around town, but to actually find one… to go in one, is a first.”
The documentary is to be submitted to the U.S. International Film and Video Festival and the Axiem Awards competition. It will be available on DVD in August 2007. You can order a DVD by visiting www.smithhouse.com .
